Our Mission & Vision

The Department of Planetology at Kobe University provides opportunities for comprehensive education and research on earth science, planetary science, and space science. Research on the Earth began with the exploration of rocks and geological structures on the Earth’s surface, and developed into planetary science through the observation and exploration of planets in the solar system. Furthermore, with the discovery of planetary systems around stars other than the Sun, planetary research has become one of the important fields of astronomy. On the other hand, understanding the Earth, which nurtures life, is essential to understanding the diverse planetary systems, and phenomena such as earthquakes and volcanoes have a significant impact on our social lives. We aim to cultivate people who can study planetology, which deals with a wide range of subjects using various methods, and who can participate in cutting-edge research, as well as people who can use the perspective of planetology they have acquired to play an active role in many fields in society.
