Marine Geodynamics

Research Interests:

The planet Earth is characterized by the presence of ocean and the oceanic lithosphere that is being created there, which drives the circulation of the solid earth and causes a variety of phenomena. The main research target of this group is activities of the oceanic lithosphere (formation, history, and subduction). We try to understand the dynamics of the solid earth with the viewpoint from ocean floors based on geophysical observations.

Current Projects:

  • Dynamics of ocean floor spreading systems (upper mantle flow, oceanic lithosphere and crust formation, and hydrothermal circulation systems in ocean floors)
  • Water circulation beneath ocean floors (water circulation in the solid earth and its dynamics)
  • Earthquakes, slow earthquakes, and related phenomena based on seismological and geodetic observations and analyses
  • Seismic activities and structure of the earth interior based on ocean bottom seismological and electromagnetic observations
